Today GDP per capita is not the only indicator of national wealth; electricity consumption is just as important in measuring the degree of development and social welfare for countries of the world. A surge in global population coupled with improved living standards has increased energy consumption tremendously resulting in fast depletion of resources and soaring energy prices including gas, oil and coal.
Turkey is relatively poor in terms of primary fossil fuel resources and has to import to meet consumption making it foreign energy dependent. However Turkey is resource rich for secondary energy sources that are renewable and environmentally friendly giving it an advantage over other countries.

Electricity production investments are on the rise on a global scale as the demand for this commodity grows exponentially. In order to meet a perpetually rising energy demand it is imperative for Turkey to implement a model capable of maintaining competitiveness within the sector.
